Where: The Be the Change Project urban homestead in Reno, NV.  2055 McCloud Avenue, Reno, NV 89512

BTC is the home of Kyle Isacksen and Katy Chandler and their two sons and is a permaculture demonstration site replete with annual and perennial organic gardens, appropriate technologies in use, and various earthen constructions. BTC is a hub for community and sustainability education.

What you will learn: This is an ideal workshop for people who want to explore the possibilities of earthen construction. We'll be building more wall for a 200 square foot earthen "shed" that was partially built in a ten-day workshop in May and June. We'll start with earth bags for the stem wall, mix and build with cob, make adobe bricks, do bale cob and cordwood cob, make and apply basic plasters, check out appropriate technologies (solar wall heater, solar oven, solar shower, greywater, root cellar...) and learn the basics about windows, doors, niches, sculpting, and more. We'll tour other earthy buildings on site, you'll have the opportunity to ask tons of questions, and you'll leave with the basic knowledge of how to build with earth.

Pizza party using our cob oven on Saturday night. Locals, please bring a topping to share.

If you're coming from out of town, there are lodging options in our backyard cabins as well as camping. Along with lodging we'll provide a pizza dinner on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday for an additional $20 fee/pp.

Bring your own lunches, snacks, water bottles, gloves, clothes that can get dirty...RSVP to Kyle to sign up and to get more information.
